Why 5052 aluminium?
It’s tough, as strong as 4mm steel but half the weight. This is the stuff you want between your vehicles vital components and the rocks.

Weights are as follows:

Set of front 3 plates are only 20.5kg. Rear motor 6.1kg. Cooling lines 2.3kg (stainless steel).
