Blessing Bowl - Love Aroha
Aroha is a word I return to again and again in my work. It's love, affection and compassion, and for me it is about the connection we have with one another.
The Tūī and Pīwakawaka meeting around the bowl, together with the words Aroha and Love, make this a piece about love that is shared - given, received and treasured.
The rim of the bowl forms a soft heart shape, with a pair of Tūī on one side and a pair of Pīwakawaka on the other. The words Aroha and Love are worked into the design, bringing the meaning of the piece right into the artwork.
I make each bowl entirely by hand in my studio, shaping the clay and creating the artwork individually. The organic form, hand-painted details and slightly irregular surface are all part of the making process. No two bowls are ever exactly alike.
This is a substantial piece of ceramic art, made to be displayed and lived with. It has a presence that changes depending on where you place it and how the light catches the golden interior Made by me
