Ko te manawa pounamu he tohu o te aroha – te aroha o te tangata ki tōna whānau, te aroha o te tangata ki ōna hoa, te aroha o te tangata ki te Āo whānui, te aroha o te tangata ki ngā mea katoa.

A manawa pounamu represents love in all its manifestations. A love of a parent towards their child (or vice versa), the love someone may have for their friends or even the love someone may have for life. Whilst a manawa pounamu pendant is probably a modern construct that may not have been seen in taonga tūturu o te Māori it is nonetheless an important and powerful taonga today. Since it represents love a manawa pounamu is probably one of the most healing of all pounamu taonga and many manawa are gifted to assist and care for whānau that are experiencing health issues.
