Garlic - Hardneck
Gifted to us by an old local gardener who swore by it!
A lovely hardneck garlic with good strong flavour - easy to split and peel, produces good sized white bulbs with purple stripes.
Hardneck garlic is so called as it develops a hard flower stalk - called a scape - up through the middle of the cloves. This should be removed to force energy into bulb formation.
The cloves of hardneck varieties tend to be fatter and the bulb easier to pull apart than softneck garlic. Some find that hardneck does not keep as long as softneck varieties but the difference is minimal. Hardneck also tends to be more cold hardy.
