Antonelli Montefalco Rosso Riserva 2020
We love the way this wine's bright, sweet red fruited aromatics are contrasted by its taut, firm tannins. With a chance to breathe, a hot earth character opens up, and its compact but linear palate broadens. Montefalco Rosso is made in Umbria from Sangiovese (70% here), amped up by Sagrantino, with 15% of other red varieties allowed (Montepulciano in this case).
Antonelli is an Umbrian estate of 175 hectares, with 50 hectares planted in vines on the west and south facing slopes. Having been in the hands of the Antonelli family since 1881, Filippo Antonelli has been at the helm since 1986. Local varieties Grechetto, Trebbiano Spoletino, Sangiovese and Sagrantino are grown, all organically, and the wines are made in the estate's gravity fed winery.
