Punakaiki - Set of 4 Glass Coasters

Punakaiki - the famous "pancake rocks" of the west coast. Formed over millions of years by layers of limestone, mud and clay, pushed up by seismic activity, and then eroded by wild seas and winds.

Our glass pieces are individually handmade, using glassworking methods developed over centuries.

Textures and motifs drawn from our New Zealand and Pacific heritage are hand sculpted into forms and kiln-fired. Glass is then fired over these forms, and as the kiln temperature rises, the glass softens and slumps into the mold, capturing the finest of details in a negative bas-relief.

Our coaster edges are curved and softened by the kiln to be gentle on surfaces, and each coaster is fitted with 4 rubber feet to prevent slipping and provide a further heat barrier to protect your table tops.
