Advanced Projection Ripple Tank

This a complete system for demonstrating basic wave behaviour using water waves. It features a horizontal glass plate mounted in a watertight frame, with foam beaches around the edges to reduce unwanted wave reflections.

The tank stands on three tall legs with an angled mirror beneath the glass plate. A translucent screen at the front displays the projected image clearly. A stray light shield can be placed around the back and sides to block ambient light and improve visibility.

To use, the tank is filled with a shallow pool of water just a few millimetres deep. A ripple generator is fitted to one side of the tank, along with an LED stroboscope lamp mounted above the glass plate on a flexible gooseneck support to provide lighting.

Both the ripple generator and LED stroboscope are controlled by a Wave Monitor unit, which synchronises the wave motion with the strobe flashes to produce a stationary projected image. Alternatively, the strobe frequency can be varied independently, creating a moving projected image at different speeds.
