The Tube Anemone, also known as the Tube Dwelling Anemone, is best suited to a reef or species-only aquarium with a soft, deep sand substrate. Although it resembles a true sea anemone, it is only a distant relative. These anemones build their tube-like structures using discharged nematocysts, creating a protective home in the sand.
Their coloration is striking and varies widely—ranging from tan, pink, and purple to vibrant shades of fluorescent green. A suitable setup includes a deep sand bed, ample live rock, and a refugium to support natural food availability. Being non-photosynthetic, Tube Anemones do not require strong lighting. In fact, they are nocturnal and typically remain closed during the day, gradually opening after lights go off or as they acclimate to the aquarium environment.
Due to their lack of reliance on light for nutrition, regular feeding is essential once the anemone is fully open. Offer small frozen foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, finely chopped fish, and zooplankton to keep them healthy and thriving.
