They thrive in stable, mature reef aquariums with a minimum size of 80 liters (20 gallons), where ample live rock and hiding places are provided. A temperature range of 24–27°C, a pH of 8.1–8.4, and specific gravity between 1.023–1.025 are ideal. These fish are carnivorous and should be fed a varied diet of meaty foods such as frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood, offered 1–2 times daily.
As a mouthbrooding species, may even breed in captivity, with males carrying the eggs in their mouths until hatching.
