Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse

The Cirrhilabrus solorensis, commonly known as the or Solor Wrasse, is a vibrant and active reef-safe fish native to the waters of Indonesia and the surrounding Indo-Pacific region. Males are especially eye-catching, displaying a striking blend of iridescent blue, yellow, and red hues, with a characteristic red to orange head and electric blue body that intensifies during courtship or when displaying dominance. Females and juveniles are more subdued in coloration but equally elegant, making this species a favorite among hobbyists for both beauty and behavior.

This peaceful wrasse thrives in reef aquariums of at least 250 litres, with plenty of swimming space and secure rockwork for hiding. As a hardy and adaptable species, the Solorensis Wrasse is suitable for intermediate hobbyists and up, provided that the tank is covered—these fish are known jumpers. It coexists well with other peaceful or semi-aggressive fish and poses no threat to corals or most invertebrates, making it a great addition to mixed reef setups.

Feeding is simple, as Cirrhilabrus solorensis readily accepts a varied diet of high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Multiple small feedings per day will help maintain their color and vitality. Ideal water conditions include temperatures of 24–27°C, salinity between 1.023–1.025, and a pH of 8.1–8.4. This species also benefits from a consistent day-night lighting cycle to support natural behaviors and coloration. With its vivid appearance, peaceful temperament, and ease of care, the Solorensis Fairy Wrasse is a captivating and rewarding addition to any well-maintained marine aquarium.
