Cherries are hand harvested and processed by individual farmers on-site using their eco or standard pulpers, followed by fermentation. Parchment is dried on raised beds for 14 – 20 days, then rested for 2 to 3 months in cooperative warehouses before milling in Mbozi or Mbinga.
Coffee cultivation in Tanzania has deep roots, dating back the 16th century with the Haya tribe in the northwest. Northern regions like Kilimanjaro and Arusha once dominated the country’s production, prized for their ideal Arabica growing conditions. The south, particularly Ruvuma and Mbeya/Mbozi, now accounts for the majority of output thanks to decades of strategic development.
