Local Carved Pounamu Rei Niho
This Pounamu piece known as Rei Niho was carved here in Kerikeri in The Bay Of Islands, by a local skilled carver. This taonga symbolizes the intimate connection between Maori & Tohorā (Whale). The mark of a high Chief wore the Rei Niho, as the teeth of the sperm whale (Paraoa) were highly prized because of their rarity. When a Rei Niho is worn, is it a representation of leadership & determination.
Over time this Pounamu will absorb its wearer's natural body oils, taking on qualities unique only to them. It will harness their energy & its colours & depth of detail will alter beautifully over time. May its colours forever be a symbol of their connection to our beautiful land & one day be a sacred heirloom they hand down to their future generations.
Approximately 80 x 35 x 5 mm
Black binding - adjustable
The Jade Pounamu carved originates from the West Coast of New Zealand
