Arcarian Systems - Alón Circe Loudspeakers - Previously Enjoyed - AUCKLAND STORE
We have here a pair of classic speakers from a bygone era. We have been lucky to know the current and original owners of these speakers for over 20 years. They were connected to a pair of Manley 807 Monoblocks (now sold), a Manley Tube Pre-amp ‘The Mastering Room Line Preamp (now sold) and being fed from a CD Transport by Camelot Technology called ‘Merlin’ and DAC called the ‘Uther v2.0’ from the same Camelot Technology company – which are also still available. The two boxes shown are the x-overs for each speaker.
The whole system has been through several house moves and long periods of storage. The speakers were US$12k and were in the same league as the B&W Nautilus 801 but aimed at a completely different clientele – as you can see with the ancillary equipment listed above.
The speakers are fundamentally 'sound' but require a new owner to bestow some love and care on them, or just call it ‘patina’ and simply enjoy the sound as is. We suspect the Alón Circe would give some modern speakers a run for their money.
REVIEW
"But if you're a tube-using music lover with a yen for '60s jazz, the Alón Circe just might be the closest thing to a time machine you'll ever hear. With the right system and the right music, you can easily ask yourself, "How could it get any better than this?" - Stereophile magazine: Wes Philips 11th May, 1999.
