Poly Visc® Lubricating Eye Ointment (3.5g) – Overnight Relief for Dry Eyes

Wake with dry, gritty, sore or uncomfortable eyes? Poly Visc® is a preservative-free lubricating eye ointment designed to provide longer-lasting protection for dry eyes overnight.

Its rich ointment formulation forms a smooth protective layer over the surface of the eye, helping reduce moisture loss while you sleep. Because it stays on the eye longer than standard lubricating eye drops, Poly Visc is particularly useful when dryness is worse overnight or first thing in the morning. Why we recommend Poly Visc for dry eyes

- Long-lasting overnight lubrication – provides more sustained protection than regular eye drops
- Preservative-free – suitable when frequent or preservative-free lubrication is preferred
- Protective ointment formulation – helps coat the ocular surface and reduce overnight drying
- Useful for morning dryness – particularly if your eyes feel dry, gritty, sticky or uncomfortable when you wake
- Helpful for exposure-related dryness – including people whose eyelids do not completely close during sleep Who is PolyVisc suitable for?

Poly Visc may be useful for people with:

- Moderate to severe dry eye symptoms
- Dry, uncomfortable eyes overnight or on waking
- Nocturnal lagophthalmos , where the eyelids remain slightly open during sleep
- Ocular surface exposure or recurrent overnight dryness
- A need for longer-lasting, preservative-free lubrication
- Dryness following eye procedures, when recommended by an eye-care professional How do I use PolyVisc?

PolyVisc is usually applied just before bedtime.

Gently pull down the lower eyelid and apply a small ribbon of ointment inside the lower eyelid, following the directions on the packaging or advice from your optometrist, pharmacist or doctor.

Because PolyVisc is an ointment, it will temporarily blur your vision. This is normal and is why it is generally best used immediately before sleep.

Remove contact lenses before use. What is in PolyVisc?

Poly Visc is a preservative-free ophthalmic ointment containing paraffin and wool fat (lanolin) in a soft paraffin ointment base. Waking with dry eyes every morning?

Regular morning dryness can be a sign that your eyes are drying while you sleep, but it can also occur with dry eye disease, meibomian gland dysfunction, blepharitis or incomplete eyelid closure.

If you are repeatedly relying on overnight ointments or your symptoms are not improving, an eye examination can help identify why your eyes are dry , rather than simply treating the symptoms.

At Illume Eye Care in Ponsonby, Auckland , dry eye and ocular surface disease are a particular focus of our practice. We assess the tear film, eyelids and meibomian glands to help determine the underlying cause and recommend the most appropriate treatment for your eyes.
