Hopi Tobacco is a sacred plant deeply significant to indigenous cultures, grown traditionally for ceremonial purposes. In the garden, it forms broad, textured leaves and clusters of pale yellow, tubular flowers that open at dusk, drawing in moths and adding an intriguing dimension to a wildlife-friendly planting.

As a tender annual, Hopi Tobacco grows quickly once the weather warms, reaching a substantial 60-120cm by the end of the season. The evening flowering habit makes it a lovely addition if you enjoy sitting out in the garden as the light fades, watching for the moths it attracts.

Historically, Hopi Tobacco has been smoked, chewed and juiced, and was once prized for treating migraines. As with any plant grown for traditional or ceremonial use, it's worth treating with respect, and because it's a genuine tobacco species with a high nicotine content, it's best kept well away from children and pets.
