. The blazing red flowers of the Pohutukawa Tree around Christmas time have earned this tree the title of New Zealand's Christmas tree.

It has become an established part of the New Zealand Christmas tradition. This iconic Kiwi Christmas tree, which features on greeting cards, in poems and songs, has become an important symbol for New Zealanders at home and abroad.

An original piece of glass art. Excellently suited as a paperweight, collectorÂ’s item or interior design accent. Handcrafted by award-winning glass artist Lynden Over in his Lava Glass Studio in Taupo, New Zealand. Each piece is signed and dated by the artist.

These paperweights are built up in layers starting from the hillock on which the trees stand, up through the branches to the canopy. Finally, the whole sculpture is encased in a thick layer of clear glass. The sculpture is worked at between 800 and 1000 degrees Celsius on the end of a steel rod. The tree weight is then cooled slowly in a kiln for about two weeks.

We will select a piece in the same size but there will be pattern variations to the glass you receive. If you'd like a photo of the exact piece you will receive, please use our contact form or send an email to sales@lavaglass.nz.
