“Many of the subjects I paint are iconic, and some also controversial or polarising - none more so than Queen Elizabeth. But she’s a strong, enduring (and beautiful) lady! There’s also a nice juxtaposition with my ‘Digital Dilemma’ theme. People of her generation have seen phenomenal changes in society - including the birth of digital technology.
This portrait of her looking out at the world through a tech lens has its own sense of irony, which at a young age she could not have foreseen."
Unframed Size: 560 x 760mm.
Brad Novak (aka New Blood Pop) is a NZ-based urban pop artist who wants us to “keep our inner child alive". He is the first artist in New Zealand’s history to exhibit with global superstars such as Warhol, Haring, Lichtenstein, Mr. Brainwash and BANKSY (Toronto, 2015).
His art practice covers two main themes. The first is the subjective nature of identity - which relates to the flawed human tendency to label each other, and ourselves, and thereby limit our potential. Novak rejects this through his ongoing endeavours to combine dual careers as not only a professional artist but also a medical doctor. The second deals with what he calls 'The Digital Dilemma' - in the artist's own words.
"This increasingly technological age isn't making us any happier or connecting us to others better, rather it’s doing the exact opposite!"
Novak currently shows internationally with galleries in the USA, Canada, UK and NZ. He is working towards solo shows in the UK in 2020 and USA in 2021.
