Kākā near Bald Cone, Port Pegasus, Rakiura
Status: Nationally Vulnerable
Port Pegasus is glistening below us, as we ascend
the slopes of Bald Cone. The densely forested hills
rise from the azure waters and the golden pockets
of sandy coves and rocky outcrops that outline the coast.
Higher up, the vegetation changes to ochre coloured
scrub amongst scattered granite boulders.
The Kākā commands the birds-eye view where
land and sea intertwine and mingle.
