The Mohua Family

Mohua, Yellowheads, on Ulva Island with Rata

We hear them first, a chatter overhead, then to our
amazement the mohua family are right above us,
two parents busy with three young offspring. They are
feeding their young, a rare sighting of a small family group, their bright yellow heads are glowing within the foliage. The rātā trees are blooming heartily behind them, while spreading a carpet of crimson needles at our feet.
