Mangaweka, 1973 Print

'Mangaweka', 1973, is a high-quality reproduction print of Robin White's iconic 1973 painting and depicts a 1930s truck parked in front of a wooden building in Mangaweka. Inspired by a visit in 1971 with poet Sam Hunt, White was struck by the truck blending with the surroundings. She took photos and envisioned the painting. In 1973, she finally created it. Influenced by Rita Angus, the artwork features stylized forms, flattened space, and vibrant light. A structured grid composition highlights the veranda as a dramatic divide.

Like much of White’s early work, Mangaweka takes a small slice of small-town New Zealand and transforms it into an archetypal image.
