MEES™ Beech Forest Honey is our rare and Gold Award honey that originates in the pure beech forests of the hills and mountains of the beautiful South Island.

These beech forests, rich with birdsong, dominate the foothills of the majestic Southern Alps. They produce Dew Honey, a very special kind of honey from the beech trees, because they host sooty beech scale insects which produce beautiful translucent sugary droplets. Forest insects and sap-seeking aphids draw out the tree sap, and then they excrete the sugary droplets onto the stems and branches of the beech trees.

We place our beehives near these beautiful stands of beech forests, so they can easily harvest those honey dew droplets – and that is the basis of our natural and healthy honey, which we treat with the utmost respect from start to packaged jar.

Our bees feed on the honey dew, making a totally organic product, quite different to the honey made from flower blossom and introduced species.
