uvaggio Italian (u-vàg-gio) field blend/field wine. The wine shows the strength of characters of the blend. Floral, perfumed aromatics from Viognier tempered by the honeysuckle fruit character of the Marsanne and white flowers of Roussanne. The palate has lush, floral fullness together with deep set acidity giving both length and weight.

A pleasing nose dominated by sweet dark fruits with white pepper, cedar and vanilla. Sweet black Doris plums and raspberries fill the mouth and are nicely matched with medium weight and fleshy texture. Fine elegant tannins are evenly layered with dark fruit and well integrated oak. Raspberry and spice linger on the finish.

Grown on their Gimblett Gravels 'Irongate' vineyard in Hawke's Bay and made in honour of the company founder and New Zealand wine industry pioneer, Josip Babich. This wine allows Babich complete flexibility, in order to make the best they can - they are not committed to a particular variety or blend and crop levels are very restricted.

Specially selected from our estate-owned vineyards throughout the Hawke's Bay region, we combine soft Merlot with robust Cabernet Sauvignon resulting in a full flavoured dry red with easy drinking appeal.

Much has been said and written about the Gimblett Gravels area being fantastic for Syrah. Babich was a pioneer of this region and this wine comes from the famous Babich Irongate vineyard. It is an accessible middleweight syrah that's big on berry fruit, sprinkled with spice and pepper.

Babich have been producing Irongate Cabernet Merlot Franc since 1986 and it has evolved into this richly flavoured, balanced and elegant wine. The vines from this now-famous Gimblett Gravels Irongate vineyard are selected at pruning, and crop levels are closely monitored to ensure excellent flavour concentration in the grapes.

Since its launch in 1985, Irongate has become one of New ZealandÕs most highly acclaimed wines.
