KIA TAU TE RANGIMARIE KI A KOUTOU

- a magnificent, work of art to wear! Hand carved by Andrew Doughty

A of this piece in the artists words.

This taonga has been named Kia tau te rangimarie ki a koutou which translates to
"may peace be with you".

It is a combination of pounamu with an inlay of bone. The pounamu represents the
waka of life upon which we paddle. The physical vehicle that each of us possess.

Upon this is a bird reminiscent of the dove. This is a symbol with several layers of
meaning. At one level it represents the inner life of the spirit. We are more than
just physical beings. At another level the dove symbolises peace. Therefore, it
represents the attainment of true spiritual peace. Being inlayed upon the pounamu
shows that it is grounded in actual reality and not subjective delusions.

The eyes are small inlays of buffalo horn. Horns represent mana, leadership and
protection.

This is a medium sized piece, intricately carved and beautiful to wear.

a marvellous piece that will certainly draw attention and comment.
