TE RIPI TE AROHA

- flower jade knife sculpture, hand carved by Ric Moor.

NEW ARRIVAL ONE ONLY

This is an outstanding piece of jade artistry - a beautiful, creative carving of a knife with stand.

Following, the of this piece by the artist, Ric Moor:

The handle holds the koru symbolic of growth and development, or potential where the tang of the blade enters the handle. The handle forms a stylised vaginal opening from which the blade emerges.

The blade represents love, in its ability to protect and harm, and the responsibility that comes with that.

The fit of the handle and the comfort that it fits in the hand speaks to the act of falling in love.

The stone Ric has used for the knife is a high quality New Zealand Marsden jade, the stone for the base is New Zealand Argillite.

a large and eye-catching sculpture - a fabulous display of New Zealand Flower Jade at its finest. The design has a wonderful flow and displays a great understanding, and use, of jade. This piece has an exotic form, reminding of the curved daggers seen in fantastical tales of adventure! The design moves from a sleekly curved blade emerging from a shell-like opening in the handle, into a weighty, gorgeous grip that culminates in a flowing, beautifully carved koru tail.

The base is in itself quite something. A very dense and solid piece of Argillite stone called 'adzite'. This piece is a very dark black, dense and weighty. It is the perfect stone for this purpose and it has been shaped to provide a solid, grounded base for this gorgeous sculpture.

Following a brief of the stone taken from Te Ara Encyclopedia of New Zealand:

'Adzite occurs along narrow zones between argillite and serpentinite. The argillite has been soaked in hot fluids which have reacted with the rock – a process called metasomatism – to impart the flinty nature to the adzite'.

a fantastic showcase piece!

We will include our 'Kia Ora' card, which explains the meaning behind the Koru design.
