An attractive Native New Zealand tree with bright green leaves, stout spreading branches and glossy fleshy leaves. Naturally occurs in coastal and lowland forests throughout the North Island, down to Southland. Ngaio makes a dense, fast-growing shelter and revegetation tree, suitable for a wide variety of positions, including exposed coastal sites. Poisonous to stock. Attractive to bees and wood pigeons.
