Where does START sit in the Hyalo4 range?
START is used at the beginning of treatment, when the wound bed needs preparing. Hyalo4 SKIN contains hyaluronic acid alone and supports repair once the bed is clean. Hyalo4 CONTROL adds silver sulfadiazine for wounds that are infected or at risk of infection.
What does the collagenase actually do?
It breaks down non-viable tissue enzymatically, which assists wound bed preparation without the sharp debridement alternative. Because the enzyme is 99% pure with no non-specific protease, its action is limited to non-viable tissue and healthy surrounding skin is left alone.
Does the wound need to be moist before applying?
Yes. Collagenase needs moisture to work. Dry lesions should be moistened with saline or another well tolerated solution first, and hard eschar softened with a suitable dressing.
Can it be used under a dressing?
Yes, and a secondary dressing is normally applied over it to maintain the moist environment.
Will it irritate the skin around the wound?
The purity of the enzyme means there is no non-specific protease activity, which is the usual cause of dermatitis around the wound margin with enzymatic preparations.
