Maija Isola, who designed the Kaksoset pattern, is best known specifically as a textile designer, but did you know that she also had a long career as a visual artist? During her nearly 50-year career as a painter, Isola often carried out both painting and print design on the same subject. The big cats in the Kaksoset pattern, designed in 1970, are one of these subjects, and they are repeated almost identical in Isola's painting and in Marimekko's patterns.
