Provide a bright room with plenty of humidty and let it climb up a support pole. Once the melanochrysum gets to the top, take a cutting of the top few nodes and re-root that segment with the tip facing up. The philodendron Black Gold will get thicker and produce bigger and bigger leaves. Rinse & Repeat across the seasons until you've got a big black monster in the living room.

This colourful clumping ctenanthe plant defies its pretty appearance, normally associated with fussiness, and is actually quite a robust plant and easy to care for, however, there's an art to going beyond a plant surviving to getting it thriving. Find the right position that is a balance between a warm, bright light and a spot that doesn't get so warm the soil or air dries too quickly. The trick is to cluster with other thirsty plants in a bright room like the kitchen or living room. Plants transpire moisture through their leaves and in the right draft-free space, this creates a microclimate that all houseplants benefit from. You can also create a humidity tray where the drip tray is full of water but the pot is above it resting on pebbles. Like humans, the first part of life is higher maintenance part so once your plant is big, it will be easier to care for because it will store moisture and carbohydrates in its rhizomes and become more self-reliant.
