Bunny Ears Cactus - Opuntia microdasys - 1L / 14cm / Small

 

Opuntia microdasys is one of Mexico's most iconic cacti, now available to you in New Zealand. These Bunny Ears Cacti are beautiful ornamental plants with canary yellow blooms in Spring. Pluck paddles off to create the shape you desire and re-plant the cuttings into soil for a new plant.

Handling tip:
Use one hand with a folded section of thick cardboard like a taco, the other hand use chopsticks or any other tool to complete whatever task you need to do such as pruning.

Light Requirements: Direct Sun - Bright indirect light. Needs lots of hours in bright light to thrive.

Moisture & Soil Requirements: A succulent so this plant prefers occasional deep watering and drying out entirely between watering. Use soil with exceptional drainage - never let it get soggy. Reduce watering frequency in winter.

Growth & Nutrients: Grows into a scrambling clump with multiple branches but prune to your desired shape. Can grow outdoors with protection from rain. Suits apartments or homes of any size. Feed with only small amounts of general-purpose fertiliser for containers from the start of spring each year to autumn when growth slows down.

Temperature, Humidity & Ambient requirements: Prefers warm environments inside, grows well in a range of humidity.

Toxicity: Does it really matter if it's non toxic? The fine spines on this mean you need to keep this away from anyone or anything that could touch it.
