Eryngium planum | Blue Glitter

Known as flat Sea Holly, Eryngium planum Blue Glitter is a striking and eye catching perennial that has many steel blue flowers that are egg shaped. Flowering in summer this plant will light up the garden. The flowers are held on intensely silver blue stems that stand high above the basal rosette of blue green toothed leaves.

This variety matures quickly and produces a greater number of flowers that some varieties making it particularly great for picking and drying.

Blue Glitter will add both textures and colour to your garden and is one of the hardiest sea hollies and has been proven to be a long lived perennial.

This variety has been the recipient of the Fleuroselect Gold Medal which is a prestigious award that symbolizes both excellence in breeding and beauty.

Plants will thrive in a full sun position in drier soils, including as the name sea holly suggests sandy soils. The sunnier the site the more intense blue the flowers will be. It is also a plant that will tolerate poor soils but drainage is key as it does not like moist nor fertile soils as this will make the plant become sprawly.

Be sure to deadhead to maintain a neat appearance. Cut back in late summer once flowering has finished.
