Helleborus niger | White Magic

Commonly referred to as the Lenten Rose, 'White Magic' is an evergreen plant that grows to 40-50 cms in height and will grow into quite a large clump of 50 cms wide. It has beautiful large, pure white flowers, up to 8cm across, with a green eye on thick, tall stems that push the flower well above the leaves. As the flowers age, they turn pink, and then to apricot. The seed heads stay on the flowers which are just as pretty as the blooms. This plant needs good drainage. It can stand the dry but cannot tolerate continual wet feet. They do especially well under Rhododendrons or deciduous trees - the roots of the trees provide the drainage for them.
