Aster cordifolius hybrid | Little Carlow
One of the most fashionable little Michaelmas daisies is the winner of the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit - Little Carlow. This little aster is a pretty hybrid between Aster cordifolius and Aster novi-belgii. This Aster produces masses of lavender blue single flowers that are round about 2cm wide that have bright yellow centres. This little plant flowers on soft stems and their gentle colour blends with almost anything in the garden.
Little Carlow forms a dense clump of dark green leaves with flower stems rising from the clump. Flowering for weeks on end from late summer and well into autumn this attractive aster will brighten up any area of your garden, but is equally at home in a partially shaded position but does like a moist but well drained soil. Rabbit resistant which we love!
Asters are a vital ingredient in the late summer and autumn garden and are a perfect choice for a cottage garden and they are also valued for their flowers for cutting. Plants can be propagated easily by division in spring. Cut back after flowering in late autumn. Butterflies adore Asters so these little plants make a fantastic addition to your butterfly garden.
