Ruahine Maple

The Maple is Ruahine's first Canadian Canoe. Ruahine owner, Tim Taylor, has a passion for hunting and adventure so he wanted a canoe for extended river trips. It needed to be able to carry a lot of gear, while remaining agile enough for one paddler to handle on their own.

Designed to have the best compromise of balance and speed, it has a fine cutting bow, wide mid section, and flat hull for stability. This basically means it retains its speed on the flat and is stable in the rough stuff.

These canoes are custom built so the exact layout will vary depending on your requirements. The standard layout comes with regular canoe seats and both front and rear bulkheads. We can also custom fit any accessory you want. Examples include rod holders, barrel straps or as pictured, fully sealed storage seats with waterproof hatches. Prices will vary so please enquire if you have something specific in mind.

Tim’s Tips: in June I took the Maple on its first voyage down the Whanganui River. I found it to be extremely responsive and easy to control. I actually used a kayak paddle as this was quicker for solo paddling but with two people, standard canoe paddles will move it along a a very good speed. The gear storage that we incorporated into the seats and bulkheads were an absolute lifesaver as they kept everything dry despite 3 days of rain.
