Why Do I Need ?

Bonsai soil is crucial to the well being of your bonsai tree. Our bonsai soil provides much needed nutrients to your tree, as well as providing excellent drainage, air flow, and water retention. We've spent years refining our soil recipes so that they hold water through hot summers but also drain well during wetter months. We've taken note of what our trees like and what our trees don't like to create the perfect bonsai soil mixes. Our bonsai soil mixes are suitable for every tree! Just select the right soil mix below.

The right bonsai soil for your bonsai tree depends on your tree species, size, and of course, your local climate. It is best to select a soil for your tree size first, then adjust watering for your tree species and local climate. Conifers will generally enjoy less watering than others species, for example.

Small Pot: Our Small Pot Mix is ideal for bonsai in very small pots (that fit in your palm). Our Tiny Trees fall into this category.

Medium Pot: Our Medium Pot Mix suits most most trees growing in a 6"- 8" sized pot.

Large Pot Mix: Our Large Pot Mix promotes fast drainage, and so is ideal for larger bonsai pots 14". Our Large Pot Mix is also suitable for bonsai in training (trees growing in plastic pots), as this soil promotes heavy growth when combined with an agressive feeding and watering regime (only recommended for experienced growers)

Each batch of soil is hand-mixed and contains

- Composted Pine Bark
- Orchid Bark
- Mycorrhizal fungi blend (Increases nutrient absorption, improves soil structure, and promotes resilience to stress and pathogens)
- Pumice
- Sand (included mainly in Small Pot Mix)
- Slow-release Fertiliser 5 – 2 – 6 TE (4-6 months)
- pH Adjuster
- Wetting Agent (assists with even water distribution)

Each bag will fill approximately two 8" bonsai pots or four 6" bonsai pots.

Please add a note at the checkout if your mix is for an Azalea as we will need to alter the pH of the soil.
