Black Acrobats

This enchanting by Henri Matisse was originally a blue coloured lithograph, made from gouache decoupees (cut-outs) which were then glued onto paper. depicts two female nude models arching backwards with one arm out stretched to the ground, almost abstract in composition, but on further inspection there are two clear models, bending, stretching and arching in their enviable synced acrobatic pose. What gives the nudes considerable clarity of impact is the curved lines and the emphatic exaggeration of limbs and the simple, elegant black and white colour palette. A stunning balance has been struck between organic and geometric form which creates a captivating statement piece at any size and worthy of a special place in a bedroom, hallway, living room or bathroom space.
