The wildly popular was painted by American artist Grant Wood in 1930 whilst visiting a small town of Eldon in his home state of Iowa in the Midwest. depicts a farmer and his daughter (commonly mistaken for his wife) standing rigid and steadfast in front of their Carpenter Gothic style home. a highly detailed painting using a polished style where Wood intended this piece to be a positive statement about rural American values, an image of resilience at a time of great disillusionment. The man and woman, in their solid and well-crafted world, with all their strengths and weaknesses, represent survivors of the time. now celebrated all over the world and is one of America’s most famous paintings which is firmly entrenched in the nation’s popular culture.
