Armand Roulin

Vincent van Gogh painted 17 year old in the summer of 1888 and this portrait is one of a pair of portraits of Armand by van Gogh. Armand was the oldest son of the postman Joseph Roulin who van Gogh had befriended and painted a series of portraits of Joseph and his family during his time in Arles, France. showcases a young Armand dressed in a mustard yellow jacket, with a tilted fedora hat, looking straight at the viewer with a deep gaze in front of a captivating, veronese green background. van Gogh's brush strokes on Armands face and neck are more short and sharp, typically representative of van Gogh's style at the time and noticeably different to the brush work on Armands clothes and background. the wonderful portrait addition to an array of interior decor styles.
