Lamari’s roots run deep in the rugged Eastern Highlands, specifically the Obura-Wonenara district. Smallholder farmers manage micro-plots—often under shaded canopy and rich volcanic soil—hand-tending heirloom varietals like Arusha, Bourbon, Typica, and occasionally Blue Mountain. These farmers, representing over 85% of PNG’s coffee production, cultivate with care and passion despite infrastructural hurdles. Over years of extension support, community training, and quality processing standards, this coffee has grown into a flagship of sustainable origin sourcing.
Harvest & Processing
After meticulous hand‑picking of only the ripest cherries, farmers dry their beans on-site before handing them off to the Lamari River Valley Coffee Gardens mill. There, parchment coffee is hulled, graded, and meticulously sorted for quality ahead of export.
