Malcolm Collins cello #35, 2023

Malcolm Collins was one of New Zealand’s most skilled and prolific makers, continually surprising us with newly-made instruments such as this handsome 2023 cello made while in his 80s. Trained by seminal Hamilton maker, Ian Sweetman, Malcolm adopted a Montagnana model for his cellos to produce an open but rich vibrant sound across all four strings. The projection is good making this instrument a fine choice for soloistic and ensemble playing.
