Ngā Marama – The Moons
Ngā Marama represents the cycles of time and renewal. The changing phases of the moon reflect our own seasons of growth, rest, and reflection. Just as the moon wanes and to fullness, we are reminded that every stage of life holds purpose and beauty.
The pāua inlays shine as guiding lights, symbolising clarity, direction, and hope through the darker nights of our journey. This taonga speaks to balance and continuity, encouraging us to trust the rhythm of time and the lessons carried within each phase.
Artist's Note
Created by Caleb Kutia of Tekotiri Ltd, Ngā Marama was carved as part of the Te Haerenga (The Journey) collection for Art in the Park 2025. The kōwhaiwhai design follows the natural rhythm of the lunar cycle, flowing in soft curves that represent light returning after darkness.
This piece celebrates renewal, transformation, and the understanding that every ending holds the promise of a new beginning.
