Fagus sylvatica
or European Beech, is a hardy deciduous tree with a tall, dense pyramidal form and gracefully sweeping lower branches. New foliage appears soft and silky green, maturing to deep glossy tones before turning rich cinnamon brown in autumn, often remaining on the tree through winter.
Versatile and elegant, it can be clipped for formal hedging, pleaching or topiary, or left to develop into a stately specimen. Thrives in cool, moist, well-drained soils and tolerates wind and frost once established.
