Beschoneria yuccoides
Beschorneria yuccoides commonly known as the Mexican Lily, is a striking clump-forming perennial native to the arid highlands of Mexico. It features bold, bluish-green, strap-like foliage that forms an attractive, low-maintenance rosette.
In summer it produces a dramatic, upright flower spike up to 1.5 metres tall, flushed with vivid red and bearing tubular flowers that are highly attractive to birds and pollinators. This plant is ideal for hot, dry locations and performs well in both full sun and semi-shade.
With its strong architectural form and drought tolerance, Beschorneria yuccoides makes an excellent feature in gravel gardens, containers or mixed succulent plantings. Hardy down to –12°C, provided it has well-drained soil and protection from winter wet.
