Blackback Gulls over Back Beach | Print | by Michael Smither
A reissue of an original screen print made by Michael and his father, Bill Smither, in 1976.
"This is a characteristic Taranaki image – the light reflecting on the black sands, intensely green hills, coloured cliffs, the Kaitaki mountains and Herekawe stream emerging, the birds upon the updraft of the cliffs.
The way the eye is drawn into the sweet spot of the composition – the emergence of the stream from the land - I consider still to be one of my best compositions."
