Chionchloa Rubra is a native tussock grass which will get to 1m tall in 5 years. It is often planted in large groups with the large red coloured leaves waving in the wind.

It will grow best in cool damp sites but can handle low fertility soils.
Does not like dry hot sites being mainly a South Island and lower North Island plant.
