Kahu Design - Huruhuru Feathers
This range has been inspired by native New Zealand birds - The Huia, Kākāpō, Kōtuku, Tūī and Kākā. For Māori, certain birds are culturally and spiritually significant. Their feathers often denoted prestige and mana. Māori chiefs wore the Kahu Huruhuru (feather cloak) made from the feathers of the most beautiful birds.
This feather range are handmade using fused glass techniques. Each feather is lovingly made through a technical four-stage process. Each stage can take 12-14 hours to ensure the perfect size, colour, texture and shape. Each feather takes a week to make and the end product is a true survivor through the sensitivities of the glass fusing process!
