Mere are a short-handled weapon shaped like a club with a flat elongated edge designed for close combat. Though weapons like this were made from a variety of mediums such as wood or bone, ones carved from pounamu were highly prized.

Pounamu or Greenstone is regarded as a stone sacred to the gods by the Māori of New Zealand. As a Taonga -meaning treasured, and it should be worn with respect and pride. Pounamu is a gift from the heart.
