Nattokinase is derived from "natto", a traditional Japanese food of fermented soybeans. Nattokinase is a fibrinolytic enzyme, meaning it supports the breakdown of inappropriate aggregation of fibrin, a protein involved in blood clotting. Its actions are very similar to those of a naturally-occuring enzyme in the body called plasmin, which breaks down many types of blood proteins, including fibrin clots.

Excess fibrin in the body may contribute to cardiovascular problems, blood pressure imbalance, poor circulation, and slow tissue repair. Nattokinase plays an important supporting role to healthy blood flow, which supports the health of the heart, brain and muscles by supplying vital oxygen supply to all organs. What is Serrapeptase?

Serrapeptase is a well-researched proteolytic enzyme that has been shown to be helpful in many areas of the body. It supports circulation and cardiovascular health, contributes immune support especially for respiratory complaints by reducing naso-sinus and bronchial mucus viscosity, and also supports tissue repair and joint comfort. Serrapeptase was first isolated from the non-pathogenic Serratia bacteria found in the Japanese silkworm that used the enzyme to break down its cocoon walls.

Although serrapeptase is susceptible to breakdown by stomach acid, Doctor's Best uses Serrateric™, a special coating that protects the enzyme until it reaches the intestines and therefore optimizes absorption.
