Hot Wheels Vintage Grand Prix 1965 Ford Galaxie

Too Big, Too Fast, Too Thirsty — 1965 Ford Galaxie

The Ford Galaxie approached motorsport the same way America approached most things during the 1960s: bigger is better. Bigger body, bigger engine, more power, and more presence. What it lacked in subtlety it made up for in raw spectacle. Watching a giant Galaxie thunder around a race circuit was unforgettable, particularly when competing against much smaller European rivals. They even raced at Bathurst, where their immense power impressed spectators almost as much as their alarming appetite for fuel and brakes. About the Real Car

- Model: 1965 Ford Galaxie
- Engine: Big-block Ford V8
- Power: Competition specification
- Drivetrain: Rear-wheel drive
- Highlights: Massive V8 power; full-size American dimensions; touring-car racing history; Bathurst competitor; unmistakable road presence When America Entered Touring Car Racing

The Galaxie was enormous by touring-car standards. Weighing more and using considerably more fuel than many competitors, it often appeared completely unsuited to road-racing events. Then the V8 started working.

Its tremendous straight-line speed made it a threat on fast circuits around the world, including Australia's famous Mount Panorama circuit at Bathurst. While fuel consumption and braking performance could prove challenging, the sight and sound of a racing Galaxie remains one of the most memorable chapters in touring-car history. Technical Details
