Arthropodium cirratum is a herbaceous perennial, a clump-forming plant with masses of large starry white flowers in late spring to mid-summer. Grows in part sun or shade, under trees or in the semi-open. Excellent for mass planting, the foliage gets frosted back in lowland Canterbury but lasts through the winter on the Port Hills. Used widely as a ground-cover for dry shade and under trees. Frost tender.
Prune any old flowers after flowering.
May have been farmed by Māori as a root vegetable.
