Now one of the premium holdings of the Yalumba group, the Pewsey Vale vineyard (est. 1947) was the very first in the Eden Vale. Still focused entirely on Riesling, and still on its single site, Pewsey Vale sits at 500m above sea level, 250m above the Barossa's hot valley floor. Here, it enjoys the relatively cool temperatures and slow-ripening necessary for a cool-climate grape like Riesling to reach high levels of flavour definition at the locally acceptable balance of alcohol, sugars and acidity. With the vineyard's well adapted old vines and the nearly unlimited resources invested by Yalumba — personified by the loving attention of renowned winemaker and Riesling fan, Louisa Rose — Pewsey Vale's wines and quality-for-value ratio have earned steady barrage of accolades over the years.
